Crackling Sun

Crackling Sun, video, 11:15, 2021.

Focusing on ecosystems of interdependence and addressing themes of human, animal, and post-human emotional infrastructures, I attempt to create a framework for alternative storytelling. This takes the form of a virtual exploration interwoven with textual excerpts inspired by the stories of Japanese writer Osamu Dazai.

The work “Crackling Sun” seeks to activate methods of perception, coexistence, and communication that transcend the human condition. It follows the efforts of a monstrous creature to grasp the essence of human existence. Throughout the work, after a journey of contemplation and transformation, the creature—an undefined hypothetical entity—ultimately fails to comprehend the concept of human existence. It ends up viewing it with skepticism, much like it views its own self.
